Tenerife South and the spot at El Medano is the dream destination. If you kitesurf, windsurf, or foil, grab your flight and come over.

It's essential to check the wind forecasts, as it doesn't always blow here.

Surf El Medano Teneryfa

I spent two months on Tenerife, and on two occasions, the spot was calm – once for about a week, and another time for almost ten days. I met disappointed surfers who missed the windy days and left a little disheartened. However, when the wind kicks in, it's absolutely epic!

On windy days, with gusts between 25 and 40 knots, you'll see kites of 6m2, 7m2, and 8m2 flying above the waves.

On lighter wind days, kites of 10m2, 11m2, and 12m2 are more common.

Occasionally, 15m2 or 17m2 kites were out, but those were typically for riders weighing over 100kg.

During winter (December, January) in South Tenerife, daytime temperatures never dropped below +20°C, and on New Year's Eve, it was a scorching +38°C in the sun. On Christmas Eve, I was outside walking at night, and felt warm in long trousers and a sweatshirt. More about El Medano
