I spent two months in Tenerife, and on two occasions, the spot was completely calm. Once for about a week, and another time for nearly ten days.
I met disappointed surfers who had missed the windy days and were returning a little disheartened.
However, when the wind picks up, it's absolutely hands-down incredible!
On windy days, with gusts between 25 and 40 knots, you'll see kites of 6m2, 7m2, and 8m2 soaring above the waves.
On lighter wind days, 10m2, 11m2, and 12m2 kites are more common.
Occasionally, you might spot 15m2 or even 17m2 kites, usually ridden by surfers weighing over 100kg.
Visiting the Canary Islands in winter (December, January), the temperature in Tenerife South never dropped below +20°C during the day, and on New Year's Eve, it reached a scorching +38°C in the sun.
